Fe y alegría

We are an Education Movement, committed to serve the most vulnerable sectors in the construction of a fair and fraternal society. Millions of children, youth and adults have been educated at the educational centers of Fe y Alegría, a heart that still beats today in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia; led by the Society of Jesus, in collaboration with institutions, governments, businesses, religious congregations and social organizations.

WHAT WE DO

At Fe y Alegría, we promote popular education and social promotion from and with the communities we serve, considering it the only way out of poverty and exclusion. We encourage comprehensive and inclusive processes, upholding the universal right to quality education as a public good.

Our presence in 22 countries and support to another dozen makes us a benchmark in Popular Education worldwide.

We offer free, quality education to children and youth in marginal urban and rural areas, contributing to the social and human development of the most disadvantaged communities, thanks to the public funds from States, contributions from international cooperation, businesses and local donors and collaborators.

OUR GLOBAL PROJECTS

QUALITY OF EDUCATION

Quality of Education is one of the foundational pillars of Fe y Alegría. As our founder José María Vélaz SJ stated: "The education of the poor cannot be a poor education". With your contribution to the Quality of Education project, you are helping improve the quality of the learning proposals we offer to our students, with better-trained teachers, an education that awakens the appetite for learning, for surpassing limits, one that appreciates and recognizes each student’s learning and encourages their creativity, freedom and value- based education for life.

TRAINING FOR WORK

The reality in the lives of young people in vulnerable contexts urges us to commit to a technical training that may provide them with greater opportunities for employment and job insertion, and encouraging their entrepreneurial initiatives. By contributing to the Global Project of Training for Work, you support vocational education improvement at our centers, allowing our students to face more effectively the challenges of the labor world, strengthening their abilities to contribute to their communities and to the construction of a better society.

YOUTH

Fe y Alegría is not on the fringes of the reality our students live. At the Youth Project, we seek to promote discussion and youth action by training them on organized participation, and accompanying them to strengthen their analysis capacity as citizens committed to their reality. By contributing to the Youth Project, you can help us continue with this support action that promotes youth education, the creation of spaces where they can identify their matters of concern and exchange experiences, thus encouraging their citizen involvement.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

Educating in poverty contexts without promoting community transformation makes no sense. This project’s main challenge is to position Fe y Alegría's citizenship beyond the educational center, and taking the citizen awareness and advocacy processes to the community environment and, in the end, to most of the spaces of political decision-making and construction of the public good. By supporting this project, you become our partner in the construction of a movement of caring organized people committed to society, defenders of rights, and caretakers of the common home.

GENDER EQUITY

We need to reduce inequalities, discrimination and violence that exist in the contexts of poverty where we are present. By contributing to this project, you help us continue to carry out educational actions that promote equality, equity, inclusion, care and respect for differences from a rights-based approach.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

Fe y Alegría believes that an integral quality care with a focus on early childhood rights is a key part of our educational proposal. With your collaboration, you can help us strengthen the care, access, and quality education coverage for all children in their early years.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Educating people with special and different needs in vulnerable contexts is one of the main purposes that inspires our work. With your contribution to the Inclusive Education project, you can help us to continue generating programs and actions towards the development of greater opportunities for students with special education needs and disabilities; with flexible pedagogical responses tailored to their needs, while strengthening the training and support to their teachers and families.
